Bonjour! Guten Tag! Hola! Nǐ hǎo! Cześć! Bună ziua!

At The Grove Academy, we believe that all children should be equipped with the necessary skills to learn a Modern Foreign Language. We want to ensure that all our children strengthen their abilities to learn French, appreciate all cultures and value being a global citizen.

Our children’s attitude towards French, and languages in general, is extremely positive. Our children agree that learning of other languages is exceptionally valuable and they take great pride using their French skills. We encourage our pupils to develop a love for languages and to have high ambitions and aspirations for themselves in terms of their future lives and careers.

We teach French across Key Stage 2. The Grove Academy uses the “Sue Cave Languages” scheme of work to support the teaching and learning of French. This scheme provides clear progression for the development of speaking and listening, and vocabulary acquisition, as well as a bank of resources to provide teaching and learning opportunities for all pupils to flourish in French!

Although KS2 are explicitly taught French, we celebrate diversity at The Grove Academy and celebrate the ‘European Day of Languages’ annually. There will be opportunities for children of all ages to experience French and other languages in a variety of less formal ways, which could include learning simple songs or rhymes, visits by native speakers, including parents, joining in with simple stories and learning about living in French-speaking countries. This will create a positive culture of engagement and enrichment to enhance learning.
