School Lunches

Feeding children good, healthy school food is a responsibility The Grove Academy takes very seriously.  All of our meals are freshly prepared, utilising quality ingredients, to create modern menus which offer variety and choice.

We take great pride in our skilled catering team, who produce tasty and nutritious food, to a very high standard, every day.

We use only reliable suppliers, ensuring a fully traceable food chain, allowing you as parents the reassurance that our school meals are safe, nutritious and tasty.

As the menu has proved very popular with children, there is only one update to the current menu ant that is Friday in Week 1 no longer has Salmon Fishcakes but instead has Cod Fish Fingers.

ORDERING SYSTEM

Menu choices are made each morning at class registration and roll on a three week rota.  Please look through the menu with your child and discuss the menu choices so that they are ready to make their choices each day in class.

PAYMENT IN ADVANCE

Payment for school dinners should be made in advance online via the School Gateway link www.schoolgateway.com.  Charges for the first half of the Spring Term are:

£2:30 daily;  £11.50 weekly;

£13.80 for Wednesdays

£11.50 for Fridays

All infant pupils are entitled to a free, nutritious school meal at lunchtime regardless of what your income is.  This scheme is to help improve healthy eating and support children with the energy they need to concentrate in class throughout the day - plus save families money!  If your child has specific dietary needs, we will do our best to provide a suitable menu.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can only receive Free School Meals once your application has been approved by County.  Until such time you must pay for all school meals taken.  Please contact the Customer Service Centre on 0300 123 4048 to start your application process or apply online at www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals.  Checks will be carried out routinely to assess if you remain eligible.  Applicants who remain eligible will continue to receive Free School Meals and this will be carried forward to the next academic year automatically.  Applicants who fail the audit check will cease to be eligible and any school meals taken will have to be paid for.

We are encouraging eligible families of children in  Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to apply for Free School Meals even though school lunches are free for all children in these year groups.  Pupil premium can only be allocated to children who have applied and been accepted for Free School Meals.  Please apply online at www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals.
